America's Centennial Year: 1876
The 250th anniversary of American independence is an excellent time to look back upon America’s 100th birthday, or Centennial, in 1876.
Interestingly, they did not celebrate the Centennial in Washington, DC. Instead, festivities centered on the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the first US world’s fair. They constructed massive fairgrounds at West Fairmount Park.
